Packages provide bulk buying power -- my suppliers guarantee the hotels, B&Bs, car rentals and airlines that we will fill
their rooms and seats, thereby getting me (and you!) a better rate. Buying the whole package - air, car and accommodations --
will get the largest discount. Drop the accommodations and you'll get a discount but not as much... purchase one and the discount
is minimal. Airfare is the only problem with this type of business model -- airfare rises as seats are sold on the plane therefore
if you're set on a date, book it as soon as you can.
