Highlights:

Ireland is the realm of legend and mystery - Cu Chulainn, Fionn Mac Cumhaill and the Tuathau De Danaan who later went underground in the fairy mounds to become "Na Daoine Sidhe" the Good Folk. It is also littered with castles and old houses that are traditionally the home of ghosts. With Leap Castle considered to be the most haunted Castle in Ireland and Glin Castle with its poltergeists by the banks of the Shannon you may see a "Phuca" or two. It will take a brave soul to venture amidst cold drafts, shrieks and bumps in the night!!! This is a fantastic adventure tour absorbing some of Ireland most beautiful scenery, culture and amazing historic past along the way, while staying at a few of Ireland most esteemed and luxurious castles, some of them haunted!

Each Haunted Ireland Tour is designed based on availability of castles and manor homes, trying to create the best route for trip. If a castle is not available for your dates (remember, they're highly sought after and smaller than most hotels), the trip order may be reversed and accommodations changed to ensure your trip's dates. We will try to include as many haunted castles as possible, filling in with regular castles if needed.

Sample of 'Haunted' Ireland sights:

Kilkea Castle (Co. Kildare) - Built in 1180, it is the oldest inhabited Castle in Ireland. Local folklore maintains that the castle is haunted by the ghost of Earl “the Wizard” Gerald and the presence of “evil” symbolized in the famous Evil Eye Stone located there. Continue onto Kinnitty Castle for your 4-night stay. This magnificent castle boasts luxurious and stately bedrooms and reception rooms filled with antique furnishings. Gourmet dining is combined with fine hospitality. Horse- Riding and shooting are specialties. This castle is most famous for it’s long and turbulent history. The castle was destroyed in 1209 and was later rebuilt by the Norman's in 1213. It’s said to be haunted by the 11th Earl of Kildare.

Leap Castle (Co. Tipperary) - If you dare, you can visit the most haunted castle in Ireland – Leap Castle. Leap Castle certainly is home to many secrets of a dark and mysterious past. Over 400 years ago in what is now known as the "Bloody Chapel" a shocking murder occurred between one brother and his priest brother during high mass. Another source of evil at Leap Castle is a hidden ubliet (a dungeon) located off the bloody chapel. It was a small room with a drop floor. Those who were forgotten within this room suffered unimaginable pain and misery until their death. Around c.1900 workmen who where hired to clean out the ubliet made a hideous discovery, human skeletons laid piled on top of each other Because of its extremely bloody history Leap Castle has always had a reputation of being haunted, a reputation so strong local people avoided it at night. Completely gutted by fire, Leap Castle was boarded up and it's gates were pad locked for over 70 years. Locals have described seeing the windows at the top of the castle "light up for a few seconds as if many candles were brought into the room" late at night. The castle laid in ruin for years.

Charleville Forest Castle & Killua Castle (Co. Offaly) - Complete with Druid’s Initiation Circle and dark, spooky catacombs and a tower which Charles Bury, First Earl of Charleville still walks amongst the living. Many orbs “ghostly balls of light” have been spotted throughout the castle to remind us all that we are not alone.Drive north to Westmeath to visit Killua Castle, one of the most romantic ruins in the country.

What Our Have Said About This Tour...

Aug 2006 from Janice N. (Philadelphia, PA)
Hi Chris, We’re back!!! We had a wonderful time. I loved the choices of hotels. The Mont Clare was away from the College and was very pleasant. The Old Ground was very charming. The weather was very decent, just a few rain showers here and there. We traveled hither and yon, on some roads that were just cowpaths. We enjoyed every minute of the scenery and the sheep, and sheep and more sheep. I managed to get an hour at Knock and we even ventured over to the Cliffs of Moher. We happened by the “Quiet Man” Bridge and took some photos. Also, by accident, discovered the National Famine Monument, which was avery somber reminder. We visited the Kylemore Abbey, and I was very fortunate to get to pet some thoroughbred colts at the Irish National Stud The castles were just incredible. We had fabulous dinners and desserts. We didn’t get to see any spirits . I did get some orbs at Killkea Castle and at the Charlesville Castle. I would like to mention the Renvyle house was a little disappointing. The bedcovers were a bit shabby and children running all around. The children were even allowed into the dining room barefoot. The breakfast and the dinners at the Renvyle were appealing and delicious. The service was 4 stars. So there were some +’s. Here is a picture of me and my husband at the Cabra Castle. Thanks again for making our Ireland trip very memorable. We are planning to visit Rome and Spain next September. I’ll touch base with you in a couple of months to discuss possible arrangements. Take care. Janice N.

Aug 2005 from Donna D. (Mesquite, TX)
Well, the kids have returned. All in all they had a pretty good time. Once again their luggage didn't arrive with them. They reclaimed it in Philadelphia & the rechecked it, but alas that didn't help. Seems as though the Philadelphia airport has some difficulty handling luggage. They did finally get their bags in Ireland on Monday & Tuesday. The trip was pretty good though. They did have some suggestions for future travelers though. It would be helpful to know which Castles need to have reservations made in order to tour or the hours they are open for tours. Better directions in some cases. They were supposed to go to some cave one of the first days, but they couldn't find it & none of the local people even knew what it was. When they arrived at Kinnitty Castle, the castle showed that they weren't supposed to arrive until the following day, but their coupon had the correct days on it. The castle remedied the problem though. I think that was all they had mentioned. They said they would make the trip again if another opportunity to do so came up. [Note: I get this often - directions are sometimes difficult for off-the-beaten-path sites and an issue that is hard to remedy due to the rural nature.] The experience with your travel agency & with you has been great. I thank you for all of your work on this. If you should need a reference in the future, I am willing to give you a good one. Oh, one last thing. I need a favor of you if possible. When they were at Kinnitty Castle they stayed in one room one night (Soret room...not sure of spelling) then had to be moved to a room (Geraldine room) next door for the other 2 nights (my daughter blew a fuse trying to plug in the power converter). When they were in the other room at night they heard loud voices & what sounded like someone walking in high heals coming from the room they had been in the first night. They weren't sure if there were actually any guests in that room or not. Would it be possible to find out if that room they were in the first night was actually occupied the next two nights (would have been Wed & Thurs nights)? Also while they were at Kinnitty, Stephan said every morning his bag was warm, like something had been sleeping on it during the night. They didn't have the heater on my daughter's bag was never warm. Another thing, I think it was on the last night of their trip, my daughter said she kept feeling something touching her neck while they were laying in bed reading (LOL, no it wasn't Stephan). Thank you so much Chris. I appreciate your time in putting this trip together. Sincerely, Donna D.

Jun 2005 from Suzanne H. (Michigan)
I took the Haunted Castle Tour last Thanksgiving week. I booked through Chris, who I have never met still to this day. I was very nervous about booking through the internet and did not relax until we checked into the first castle with no difficulty at all. The trip was great. They provided a detailed itinerary of possible excursions to a variety of haunted castles. We didn't do them all (it would not have been possible) but selected those that we felt were best for our schedule and worked around the shopping and other site seeing we wanted to do. My son had to make a poster about himself for school and I commented that while most kids have photos of them playing sports or swimming and my kid has mostly photos of himself climbing on old ruins. We stayed in 3 castles. Kinnitty Castle was our favorite - it felt the most like an old, haunted castle we were hoping to visit. I traveled with 4 children and 4 adults. We were provided with two large vans for the group. Because of the left-side driving, we opted to take only one of the vans so that only one person would have to adapt to the driving. The company did not have to refund the cost of the second van since we purchased a package. They did, however. Chris even got us in to Kinnity for two nights when the original package provided for just one night because we wanted to spend more time out in the country and less time in Dublin (just our preference). Thanks, Suzanne

Sep 2004 from Tammy P. (Salisbury, MD)
Hey Chris Thanks for the email. We did get back safe and sound. Sadly I had to straight back to work. The weather was gorgeous and we didn't pack properly but it was worth the sunny weather. Loved Kinnity Castle, everyone was so helpful and friendly!!! Thanks again for all the arrangements. Thanks again. Tammy
